These charming tin tiles have come from buildings in America dating back from the mid 1800s. They were used in sheets to line ceilings to give an elegant finish to rooms and some were more elaborate than others. This was a much quicker way to add detail than the more time consuming and intrecate plaster details of European ceilings and made it more readily available to a larger market of the aspring home owners.
Today these tiles bring an architectural detail to our homes with some of the tiles having layers of paint added over the years, which is now gently peeling and adds to their charms.
They now find a new lease of life as decorative wall art, mirror surrounds, splash backs or even headboards in our bedrooms.
Ceiling tiles featured in this blog – £110. Mirror ceiling tile is sold.
