On my travels I’m constantly looking out for odd and interesting chairs that are in need of a new lease of life. I do find a good old chair far more appealing than a modern one. They have to have something about them though, almost a character and personality. In my own mind there is a criteria that each must fulfill. An interesting shape, great legs, be of a practical size for modern day living and most importantly be comfortable to sit in. By choosing to reupholster in a fabric that is neutral in tone allows a greater flexibility in which to place the chair into a finished scheme.
I’m afraid most chairs in my home, of which there are many, do tend to be moved from room to room as I feel I need to change a look, so neutrals work very well.
I love to add cushions to chairs and sofas as they can dress a room so well and tie furniture in with a particular colour scheme. I do get bored with the same cushions all year round, so I do a seasonal change. Linen and cotton fabrics are fresher and lighter in feel and work for Spring and Summer.
Wools and velvets for a rich, luxurious and cosy feel for Autumn and Winter. I can get a little carried away with the whole cushion thing mixing colours and textures until I’m happy with the look!
I’m soon brought back to earth though when the family arrive home. Cushions hit the floor in rapid succession as they desperately try to find a seat!
The two reupholstered chairs featured in this post are currently for sale. Please contact us for more details.
