When the horse was all powerful and depended upon for much, many large estates had magnificent stable blocks, all homage to equine form!
No expense was spared and every detail was carefully designed. As modernisation and mecanisation came about, our everyday dependence declined and the buildings fell into disrepair and were either demolished or converted into desirable housing.
I was lucky enough to be contacted about such a place outside Harrogate in North Yorkshire and I found some wonderful bridle plates from the old tack room.
Old salvaged equestrian furniture is such a great alternative to the somewhat less inspiring coat hook or coat stand. They are beautiful in their own right and you can see the skill in the design and hand built quality.
My favourite way to display them is as wall art – an object in their own right to be admired.
